Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri wants to pip Manchester United to Serie A defender, as ESPN claimed earlier in the month that Jose Mourinho wants his side to back him publicly and he has asked for the cash to sign Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar and Alessio Romagnoli of AC Milan.
Jose Mourinho was looking for a centre-back in the summer, but the board did not agree moves for Toby Alderweireld, Jerome Boateng, and Diogo Godin and Leicester’s Harry Maguire proved out of reach.
However, The Sun is reporting, Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri is ready to try and gazump rivals to Milan skipper Romagnoli.
The former Roma defender is one of the first names on the team sheet under Gennaro Gattuso, with the Italians currently on a nine-game unbeaten run.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported in the summer that the Red Devils made an approach for Alessio Romagnoli, presenting a package worth a total of €50 million – but Milan turned down and could hold out for as much as €65 million.
It remains to be seen if Maurizio Sarri will ask the team to back him in the pursuit of a new defender.
